Tips for getting the highest quality transcription

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

Working in the healthcare industry is never boring. There are always new challenges and solutions that need to be found. When it comes to dictating for your medical transcriptionist, there are several tips that can help you get the highest quality transcription.

Organizing your information first will not only provide you with the opportunity to process your thoughts but will help with the flow of information. With everything in the right order, you will not have to go back and forth between topics when you start to record. Discussing patient demographics can be time consuming, but it is the key to identifying your client. Repeating yourself is not necessary, your transcriptionist can rewind and hear what you say again.

When you are going to record, make sure that you understand the device you are using. Whether it is an app, hand held recorder or you are using a toll-free call in line like ours, understanding the basic features will help save you time and money. If you need to gather your thoughts, just hit pause to avoid a line of silence in your recording. Speak clearly and if possible be in a room that is quiet to allow for minimal background noise. Conversational tone and pace makes for a better audio recording. Speak too fast and it could get jumbled together on the file. If there is a term that you believe the transcriptionist may not know, it is always appreciated if you spell it out loud. As your transcriptionist gets to know you, they will start to catch on to your speech patterns and make continually reliable transcriptions.

At the end of your transcription, do not forget to say “End of Recording” so that your medical transcriptionist is reassured that it is the end of the recording instead of their being a missing part in the file. Working with the right medical transcription company can make all the difference. We offer professional transcription services that align with your needs.
